So I had to remember that we had no class on Friday because of homecoming activties. When I questioned what I should blog about , it took some thought. I got up an went on campus to observe and try and enjoy my Friday off. I notice many uses of video cameras along the strip by the stadium. I wondered how those individuals came up with new ideas for their stories. I also questioned why they chose certain angles to film things in?
It's very interesting that now that I have slight and I do mean "slight"(lol) experience with the camera, how I begin to think like a journalist more. I'm not limited to just thinking in a PR manner. My mind is trained to think in a journalistic mind frame. I greatly appreciate this course and what it's helping me to accomplish in my scholastic endeavors. Now If i can just get that flip camera I've been begging for life would be GREAT!!!:)
I'm now ready to being class next Friday to implement all the ideas I've come up with . I'm ready to edit my tape and do my stand up . I hope I can sound professional and natural, I got the look down pack already!!! lol
Until next time .........

Day 2 of Filming...
Well since I was absent on last Friday , I'm still obligated to blog about my new course. I learned from my group partners that Soul Train was in fact very rude to them and conceited. Not surprising at all, but I'm really feeling like , "Dude you sell freaking snacks on our campus, get a LIFE!" My partners said he wanted them to schedule an appointment and then had to nerve to say he ran Tallahassee and would get their camera confiscated!!! I'm furious at the fact that he acted as if he is President Obama.....tisk, tisk, tisk! Rachel told me to know our rights as journalists and that Florida A&M is a public university and he can't confiscate anything! That made me smile , the nerve of "snack man." So I moved away from the rudeness and came up with another story. We got to view a package by our other instructor Jon. We began writing our scripts for our packages and learned how they should be written. Starting with VO #1( where we introduce our characters) , SOT(laymen), VO #2(MEAT), SOT #2(official source), VO #3(wrap up) and our SU( stand up). I can't wait to get out and shoot again on November 5. Ready....Set...Film baby!!!
Camera Edit Training
PR professors are always drilling in the students
head....CONVERGENCE....CONVERGENCE.....CONVERGENCE!!! I am enrolling in a six week course learning camera edit training skills. I feel skills learned in this course will give me an advantage over my competition in my career. I am a public relations major and learning these broadcast skills makes me more marketable to potential employers. When I entered class it was a very relaxed and welcoming environment. I was introduced to new terminology. Things from VO's and SOT's, I was like what in world does this stuff mean? I'm used to promotion, persuasion, intended messages and things of that nature. Rachel and Jon did a good job of explaining and not making me feel not so remedial compared to all the advance broadcast majors in the course. After learning the broadcast "slang", we discussed possible topics and I began to feel more confident about the course. My group decided to do a story on the legendary Soul Train on our campus. Since I know what type of person he is this will be an interesting conversation because the man is pretty snappy!!! Let the fun begin :)
